Water and microbiota
The water we drink has direct intestinal effects. In this post we tell you more about the benefits of alkaline water on the microbiota.
As concern and the need to care for the intestinal microbiota has become so important in recent years, at Alkanatur we wanted to offer our contribution to scientifically demonstrate how a good drinking water can help to improve the composition of the intestinal microbiota.
Years of collaboration and research
After years of collaboration, we have decided once again to commit to this project with one of the most cutting-edge research groups and the largest public scientific and technical research institution in our country, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) (Superior Council on Scientific Research).
CSIC-UAM, ICTAN and ACCU
The group is led by Dr. María Monsalve, Senior Scientist CSIC, Head of Research Group at the Institute of Biomedical Research Sols-Morreale IIBm (CSIC-UAM) Superior Council for Scientific Research - Autonomous University of Madrid, in collaboration with the Institute of Science and Technology of Food and Nutrition (ICTAN).
We would especially like to thank the Association of Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis Patients of Madrid (ACCU), with whom we signed an agreement, for their help in recruiting patients for the study.
The results were published in the prestigious journal Microorganisms and the summary of the conclusions of both the human and preclinical studies were as follows:
Effects of Alkanatur alkaline ionised water:
1-Helps to encourage better maintenance of the intestinal mucosa (mucin).
2-Helps to improve inflammatory conditions
3-Helps to reduce oxidative stress in the intestine.
4-Helps to improve the composition of the intestinal microbiota (Akkermansia, Bifidobacteria, Firmicutes-Bacteroides).
