Alkaline water
Information and basic concepts
What is alkaline water?
Alkaline water, like any water, consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom (H2O). It differs from other waters in its pH level. Alkalinity in water is the opposite of acidity, which makes alkaline water non-acidic.
As mentioned above, the water molecule H2O is made up of two hydrogen atoms and a single oxygen atom. But what most people do not know is that the two hydrogen atoms in the water molecule are not aligned. Instead, they form an angle of approximately 105º, which gives the water molecule properties that make it worthy of being the true source of life. If this angle were different, the water molecule would be a gas under normal conditions and life forms as we know them could not exist.
What is pH?
The pH is defined as a liquid's acidity or alkalinity.
The pH, or hydrogen potential, is the measure of the acidity, neutrality or alkalinity of an aqueous solution. The pH indicates the concentration of hydrogen ions present in certain solutions.
In nature, all substances have what chemists call pH, hydrogen potential, which is nothing more than a measure of the number of H3O and OH- that a substance has in the liquid phase. Some water molecules, although their formula is H2O due to their activity, lose one of their hydrogens to a neighbouring molecule, leaving it as OH- and its neighbour with H3O+.
In pure water we can measure the number of molecules that separate in this way. Since it depends on the temperature, we measure it at 25ºC. We see that the concentration is 10-7M, which means that very few molecules have separated, or we can say that a randomly chosen molecule separates approximately every 10 hours.
When we have the same concentration of H3O+ as OH- we say that the substance is neutral.
A scale was devised to measure the concentrations, ranging from a very high concentration of H3O+ (the lowest values on the scale) to concentrations where there is almost no free H3O+ (the highest values on the scale).
The pH is measured on a logarithmic scale.
The pH is measured on a logarithmic scale as quantities range from very high acidic concentrations of 10E-1 to the most alkaline concentrations of 10E-14.
pH = −log10 [H3O+]
We use 7 as the central value since the natural concentration in pure water is 10E-7 as mentioned before, applying the pH formula gives us the value 7.
Any value less than 7 indicates that it has a higher amount of H3O+ and is therefore acidic. Any value greater than 7 indicates that the substance is alkaline.
How do we obtain alkaline water?
You´ll find this interesting!

We can obtain alkaline water in different ways:
By buying bottled water. The consequence of this is the subsequent waste of plastic for the environment. 1 litre bottle is equivalent to 162 grams of oil and many of these bottles will end up in the sea.
This can also be done at home by boiling water for 5 minutes to raise the pH of the water to 8.4 or by adding half a tablespoon of baking soda to a glass of water, raising its pH to 7.9. In both options it is important to use distilled water. Tap water or bottled water may contain other additives and toxins, and although it raises the pH, such water will not have the antioxidant power of ionised alkaline water. In addition, the use of bicarbonate can lead to excess sodium, which should be avoided.
Finally, we can obtain alkaline water through water purifiers such as the water jug designed by Alkanatur, whose natural coconut activated filter provides quality alkaline water by absorbing sediments, bacteria and toxins.
With the Alkanatur Drops Jug we obtain pure and healthy alkaline water, with a fast filtering system, and all you need is tap water. It eliminates 99% of pesticides, heavy metals and trihalomethanes, and produces chlorine-free water with an excellent taste.
What are the benefits of alkaline water?
It neutralises acids, balances the pH, eliminates toxins from the body, improves digestion...
Natural antacid
Our lifestyle (poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, stress, environmental toxicity...) can unbalance our body pH, producing what scientists call mild metabolic acidosis.
Alkaline ionised water with its high pH rebalances our body, helps digestion and improves our intestinal health.
It is recommended for chronic diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and diseases of the stomach or intestine..
Drinking alkaline water tackles toxins, acid waste and waste products in the body, thus preventing fluid retention. The body will be balanced and the cells do not have to retain fluids to combat acidosis.

Reduces fatigue
Alkaline water is highly recommended for athletes since it improves the body's buffering capacity, reduces fatigue and regulates the acidity produced by exercise.
During high impact exercise, acids are increased and this makes it difficult to remove lactic acid from the muscles. To avoid this, it is important to eat a light diet and hydrate with alkaline water before and after exercise.
Natural antioxidant
The word antioxidant has been in fashion for many years. Vegetables or anti-ageing creams use the term antioxidant as a positive health-giving term, but the general public has probably never taken five minutes to think about what antioxidants are and why we should include them in our lives.
As we all know, the human body is a well-oiled machine that runs on food, just as a car needs petrol. Both systems process fuel and eliminate waste. In cars, this occurs in the engine, and in our body's cells, in the mitochondria.
The body's waste comes from obtaining energy from food in our cells, by means of chemical reactions in which some substances are converted into others, releasing energy. Using the car analogy, we can say that when we put petrol into the engine, it burns and we use the heat from this ignition to move the vehicle.

Some wastes are produced that can be easily eliminated through the exhaust pipe. Other wastes are produced that can gradually damage the engine.
Likewise, our body can easily eliminate the bulk of harmful waste substances, but there may be substances that are more difficult to remove, namely free radicals.
A free radical is a molecule with a positive charge because it has lost an electron. It desperately seeks out any molecule it can find.
The problem arises when this free radical that needs its electron strips electrons from our healthy cells, making them unstable.
Damage to cells makes them increasingly less efficient, making it harder for them to fight off free radicals. By helping our cells to eliminate free radicals, they can survive longer and better..
This is where antioxidants come in. Antioxidants are molecules that have the ability to yield electrons to free radicals in order to make them stable again. This means that the free radicals do not need to attack our cells to look for electrons, but get them directly from the antioxidants, leaving our cells free of waste that is difficult to eliminate.
Antioxidants are found naturally in a variety of foods and also in water.
To measure the amount of free electrons in water we can use a measurement called ORP (oxidation reduction potential). ORP measures the ability to release electrons, acting as an antioxidant. When the electron charge is negative, the lower the antioxidant value of the water.
As we have seen, drinking alkaline water due to its higher antioxidant* power favours the elimination of free radicals and therefore improves our cellular health. If we improve the machinery from the inside, it will be noticed from the outside.

It's good for the environment
Drinking alkaline water benefits our health while helping to reduce the use of single-use plastic by preventing the purchase of bottled water. The direct consequence of helping the environment also saves money in our pocket.
This is why the Alkanatur Drops jug is a quality guaranteed solution. Manufactured in Spain with the best materials and with all the corresponding certifications, it complies with the European standards and regulations.

Compare alkalinisation systems before purchasing
Before purchasing a system to alkalinise, purify, ionise or hydrogenate water, ask the seller for a scientific study conducted by prestigious entities with the equipment you want to buy.
None of them, except us, will show it to you because the capacity to neutralise acids, the antioxidant capacity and the emission of magnesium are diluted in the acid of the stomach.
Only Alkanatur carries out scientific studies on which we base our claims.
